Template Ranting!

Guess what i have been doing all day!

Fooling around with new templates!!

Since i saw pammy's new template, i had been dying to get one like hers and was i happy when i opened my blog this morning to see that she had sent me a link where i could get so many new, lovely templates.

I did find lots of templates and it was really difficult trying make a pick out of the hundred and one beautiful templates. Finally i settled for one, uploaded and saved it. I was very excited and couldnt wait to just view my new blog template.

(view blog), I clicked.

loading................. page is coming up(rubbing my hands with glee with a wide smile on my face)

What The hell?!?!

Yea, the new template was there alright but where are all my links?? My blogroll? My pictures?? My Cbox???
They were all gone!

Kia Kia,i went to customize. I needed to add my widgets back to the template.

Oya now, where is Edit layout? Why is this thing telling me to upgrade template?? I thought i just did.

Ok,let me click, maybe there is something even better out there.

Haba!! Which kain nonsense be dis na?! It has taken me to the same old templates i was running from initially.

Ok. So all the nice templates i saw are outdated. They were actually for the old blogger, which was why they didnt have the 'Edit layout ' feature where you can add links and pictures.

Oh well! What's a girl gotta do! I just have to stick with my reliable'Black dots'(thats what i call my template) at least until you teach me how to do it properly, pammy.

I so want a change of Template!
Something like what pammy's got!!

Am i sounding like a spoilt child??
I hope not.

So I finally get to do one of the most popular memes in blogville. Am going to tell you guys 8 things about me right about now! So here you go!!

1. I am a real princess. Yea like my dad is an HRH (His royal highness); a traditional ruler of one small town like dat somewhere in Eastern Nigeria. But u see, unlike it is portrayed in ‘Coming to America’, I don’t get bathed by hand maidens or have people bowing down to greet me when I go to my hometown, instead am forever cooking and serving the endless stream of people coming into the palace under the guise of greeting the EZE(King) whereas all they want is to eat free food. Those my people eh! They need to be taught a lesson or two on how a princess should be treated, lol.

2. I am a big cry baby! I admit it! I can cry!!! Even Nkiru Sylvanus in Naija home movies no cry reach me o!
While growing up, my brothers gave me the name-‘Leaking Tap’ cos I would cry over anything. I especially didn’t like being talked harshly to, even up till now i cant stand it. These days I try as much as possible to put up a hard front, u know hard babe style but inside am really a softie.

3. I love music especially love songs. Not for me rap and all that hard core stuff (Pardon me DOG). I have quite a collection of R&B, Soft Pop, Slow rock and all.
Yea, u guessed right. Am a hopeless romantic with my head in the clouds, lol.

4. I almost became a nun. Like u know, a reverend Sister. I had a huge crush on my parish priest then (typical me, always falling for the unavailable) and I didnt think there was any other life for me other than being a Reverend sister so I could always be near him(Talk about misplaced priorities). I was even ready to go without any for the rest of my life.
Fortunately just as I was preparing to begin my postulancy(The first year in the convent), I got admission into the university and I was advised by the Reverend mother to go on to the university first and after graduation if I still wished to be a nun, I would continue. Am sure she must have seen it in me then that I wasn’t cut out for that life cos it didn’t even take me the first year in the University to wash off every notion of wanting to be a nun from my head. I had gotten over my crush and stopped hearing the call. lol.
If I had gone ahead by now una for dey call me Sister Princess, lol.

5. I am crazy about perfumes. Nice designer perfumes o! No be Saturday night!lol. I have like a perfume for every day, for my moods, for different occasions.
If u be guy and u want toast me, just spray a nice smelling cologne and u don get me be dat. Ok Ok maybe not that easy sha but a nice smelling dude will always get a plus from me.

6. I hate odours. I so cant stand mouth odours, body odours, any kind of odour at all. No matter how fine a guy is, if he has some form of odour. He is a total NO! NO!

7. I no sabi pose o! No matter how hard i try, I just cant! Am like the realest(if there is a word like dat), most down to earth person you can find sometimes to a point of being razz sef. I have no problem with standing by the road side to buy bole(roasted plantains) and groundnut in my Gucci shoes(yes o! I wan pose small too na!)

8. I am a dreamer! As in dreaming while sleeping. Just as soon as I lay my head on my pillow, I start to dream. I can have like 10 different dreams in one night, make that 20 when I have malaria.
Not only that, most dreams I have in the early hours of the morning usually come to pass so if i dream bad thing about you, you get to like do 7 days fasting to cancel am O!

Phew! Finally done. That wasn’t easy! See as man pikin dey crack brain to remember something about imself.

Am tagging manda, anibodude, la reine and pammy. Its ur turn next to tell us 8 random things about urselfs.

Change of name 2.

I would love to thank everyone who gave a suggestion as to my new name. I appreciate all ur 2 cents.

I got quite a long list of names to choose from:

Blacklace, Iboprincess, Pretty princess,Cutie-pie-lolly-pop, Yellow-satin, blogqueen, Hotstepper, Princesa, Adaeze, Adanna ,Venus ,Twice a lady,Sweet n subtle, Ms G ,ladies right, Phoenix, Sensuous, life n times of P.

So many names and I just have to choose one. Quite tough.

Ok lets see, the strongest contenders were:

Blacklace (5 votes)

Princesa (4 votes)

Iboprincess(3 votes)

And am choosing……………..Princesa!!!

Yay!! I got a new name!!!

Why did I go for this choice?

First of all, Princesa is not a far departure from my former name-Princess. They are really the same just that Princesa is Spanish for Princess. So u see I still get to retain my name. Secondly, I know lots of peeps are already comfortable with princess and it wont be difficult for them to the new name Princesa. I also like the sound of the name, kinda sexy don’t u think? Lol.

So Princesa, it is. Thanks Sisbee, it was ur idea. I just hope I don’t discover someone already has the name in blogspot. Quite unlikely though. Any way even if I do, am not changing the name again. That person will just have to change theirs.

I got to run now. But guys watch out for my next post. It going to be on the famous ‘8 random things about me’. I have been tagged by Friend of God so I guess y’all will be learning some new things about me soon. Don’t worry, am not weird.

Whats up every one! I haven’t been able to update my blog since last week cos I have been busy, busy, busy. However, I was still able to visit some of my regular blogs and for those I haven’t dropped by yet, don’t worry I have y’all in mind and will drop by as soon as I find time to.

I am going to give you guys a recap of what’s been going on with me since last Friday.

I didn’t go to work today as I had an interview with one of the multinational giants in the country. Had to take a casual leave from work so i could attend the interview. My boss didnt like it but he had to give in although he didnt know the real reason why.

Got to the interview venue( one of the 5 star hotels in Lagos) at about 8.15am. the letter had stated to be there by 8 but trust lagos traffic now, even though I left my house quite early still got there like 15 minutes late. Anyway. I was the last to arrive. I collected my candidate card and waited in a hall with some other candidates for the interview to begin.

At about 9am, the interview commenced. It was going to be in 3 segments-Group discussions, Analysis and presentation and a Competency based interview. Phew! From the timeplan given to be it was supposed to last till 6pm. I geared up to give it my best shot as it hadn’t been easy to get this far and it didn’t want it to be all for nothing.

One hour and One segment after, we went for a tea break. My group had been the last to finish our discussions and by the time we got to the Tea room, sharp guys and babes done chop the better things finish. Just a few croissants, toasts and pastries were left. Being the nice babe I am and since I was supposed to be on a diet, I decided to leave the snacks for my other group members to share and I had some watermelon and pineapple slices which tasted nice anyway.

Next was the analysis and presentation stage after which we went for a second break. This time, it was for lunch. Me, I didn’t want any story this time o so I made sure I was among the first set to get to the restaurant. Turned out it was unnecessary as it was a buffet and they was more than enough food to go round. I sha use vex enter the food, taking a bit of every thing that smelt/looked good: Jollof rice, bushmeat, chicken, beef and shaki, salad, Efo riro(vegetable soup). Yea,I know I was supposed to be on a diet but the kain hunger wey dey gba me then no let me think that side at all but sha when every one was going for deserts I had to tell myself: “Princess u berra respect urself and just gum ur yansh for chair!”.

Last stage of the interview over, it was time to battle my way through the crazy island traffic back home. Got home about 8pm, took my bath and went straight to bed.

I am praying I get the job and I need y’all to do some prayers/fasting for me too. When I get the job I go buy una………….ok ok just let me know what you want then and it will be granted and noo this is not a politician’s promise at all.

I did some cleaning/washing around the house in the morning. At about 12pm,I went with my brother to buy a spare tire for my car(I had been driving for a while now without one, God know what my fate would have been in the hands of Lagos area boys if I ever had the misfortune of a flat tire driving at night, God! I don’t even want to think of that). Got back home at about after 1pm. Decided to go do a lil’ shopping at the Trade fair complex along badagry express way. That was a huge mistake as I was in the traffic for close to four hours. Since the rains started, most of the already bad roads have deteriorated and that was the major cause of this crazy traffic. By the time I got to Trade fair complex around 5pm, the market was already closed. All the stress had been for nothing! One stupid danfo driver even dented my car sef. Feeling sorry for myself, I turned back again homewards this time to sweat it out again in the traffic for another 2 hours. Finally got home at about 7pm after wasted 6 hours of my time, fuel, energy all for nothing. I was soooo frustrated and tired after the whole experience. I thought of all the things I could have done, like going to the salon, watching movies or even sleeping, anything but the stress I went through.

Took my bath, watched a movie halfway and slept off.

After the stress of the previous day, i just didn’t feel like driving to church coupled with the fact that to get a parking space in my church is something else(u could still be looking for where to park ur car and the mass would be over before you find one) so i decided to take a bus/okada(a bike) which ever one I got first. 15 mins later I was still standing under my umbrella (it was raining) at the entrance to my close waiting for a bus/okada. Just as I was contemplating going back home to pick my car, this jeep drives out of the close and stops in front of me. I peered in to see if it was someone i knew but the face looked unfamiliar. The driver wound down the glass and asked if he could drop me off. I had no choice o! It was either that or go back home to pick my car and risk spending the whole time looking for where to park. I got in and prepared my self for the toasting I knew was going to follow. I was in no mood for any toasting but i just had to be nice afterall he was doing me a favour by dropping me off @ church.

As I was about getting down he asked for my number and I just smiled and said “Am sorry but my boyfriend wont take kindly to men calling me”. He was a gentleman and didn’t push any further.

Am in church and trying to listen to the homily but am being distracted by some guy that just keeps staring @ me like am some alien or something. Why do people have to stare stupidly at someone? I mean if you have to stare why not do it stylishly??

Went to the salon to do my hair for the week.

Later in the day I hung out @ the palms mall in lekki with my friend Obi. It’s his birthday today(Manda u missed, sorry u had to work).

Back to work. Meetings, Meetings, Meetings. We are preparing for an advertising pitch in the office and that means chasing graphic artists, copywriters, radio/television jingles producers, printers and all. Work has to be completed in time for the presentation date scheduled by Client.

Work, Work, and more work! Have to do a photography shoot for the advertising campaign. Co-ordinating kids aint an easy task o! “Aunty I want sweets! I want more sweets!! I want to peeepeee!!!!” God have mercy!

More work.

3pm. My boss calls me-"Princess, get ready we have a meeting with the chairman of xxxxx Company by 4 pm". God! Not today! am thinking. I already have a headache and if i know that woman very well(The chairman of xxxxx Company), we will sit for like 2 hours before she see us. that would mean we would be starting the meeting about 6pm and if we are lucky to round up in an hour. we should leave there by 7pm. The trip back to the office will take another 45mins(if the traffic is not too heavy), then i would leave for home around 7:45pm to get home in another 1 hour. 8:45pm!

No way!

I buzz my boss.

"Sir, cant we reschedule the meeting for tomorrow morning, its already late".

"No, we cant. It was hard enough to get this appointment. If the client says she wants it at 6pm we just have to be there".

6pm. We are still in the reception waiting for her majesty. My colleague turns to me and whispers:

"Even if na president we come see sef, e no go be like dis"

Finally around 6.30pm, we were ushered in to her office by her secretary.

Meeting starts. My boss introduces the agenda. Guess what Madam says:

"Am sorry but we havnt even discussed this in house yet. We have to reschedule this meeting to next week."

God! I feel like giving this woman a knock on the head.

Now i have to go face the late evening rush hour traffic. God help me!

Still more work. Thank God no meetings today. Am not in the mood for too much grammar. More photography shoots. Work has to be concluded this week so i just have to get off this computer and do some more chasing around the agency.

See you around guys.

I love teddies! Infact I love all stuffed animals, ugly or pretty as long as they are cuddly, I love them! Yea,I know, old mama like me, I don’t care. Maybe its becos I am the only girl amongst my siblings and having no one to play girly games with while growing up I had to turn to my dolls and teddies for comfort. It was either that or risk breaking a leg playing football with the boys (I did join once in a while and yes I sprained my knee once). My love for dolls waned as i went from girl to lady, but I never gave up on my stuffed animals and i still have a 'lil collection up till now. The biggest of them all is a big, cuddly teddy that I call ‘Doctor’ cos he’s got these cute eyeglasses that reminds me of a doctor friend of mine. Doctor was given to me about four years back by my brother as a birthday gift and since then he has always been my bedside companion, a much needed warmth on cold nights (am making do with him till I get a permanent bed warmer). Recently he disappeared(adbucted more like) but luckily I found him last week behind the settee in the living room, poor thing was looking so rumpled and harassed. Am sure it was the handiwork of my mum and her sister-my aunty. I’m going to tell you why they did it.

In the first place my mum has never hid her dislike for all my teddies and every little chance she gets, she starts to tell me about how ‘these things can be possessed by some demon”. You know like in the movie- CHUCKY. Usually when she starts, I just laugh and try to calm her fears with “Mum! These things are harmless! They are just stuffed animals” and she would always go” I have told you my own o! You this stubborn girl”. She would rest the case there only to bring it up again any chance she got.

2 months ago, my mum’s sister came to visit us and one day while we (mumsy, aunty and me) were gisting in my room the issue of marriage came up(it always does at times like this) and my aunty started-

Aunty: Ehen, princess, when are you calling us o?
Me (feigning ignorance): Calling you for what aunty? My birthday??
Mum: Silly girl, which birthday? Aunty is talking about your wedding!
Me: Wedding?? Haba Mummy, but you know I cant marry myself na.
Aunty: Hmmm…. So what about all these young men that are coming around you?
Me: Youngmen? Where are they?? There are no young men o,aunty.
Mum: Don’t mind her, that’s not true. She is just too picky, always finding one fault or the other with all her suitors.
Me (feigning hurt): Mummy!! So you want me to just marry any man that comes my way eh? Is dat what you are saying??
Aunty: That’s not what you mother is saying, all we are saying is you are not getting any younger dear, choose one of them, no body is perfect you know.
Me (tired of arguing now): Ok I hear aunty, just provide one young man now and see if I won’t marry him tomorrow.
Mum: Na so! Let him come now and lets see if you won’t say his head is too big or his leg too short.
Me: Mummy!!!!
Aunty (to my mother now): Sister, on a second thought, I think the problem this girl is having is all these ogbanje things she has in her room like dis one now(picking up doctor(my teddy) from my bed and throwing him on the floor). This thing is blocking you from getting married if you don’t know.
Mum (nodding her head in agreement): yes you are right. Tell her o! I have talked and talked but she won’t ever listen. Those things are possessed.
Me (picking up my teddy): Please you guys should stop, what has this teddy got to do with my marriage now?
Aunty: You are asking? You don’t know that the love you are supposed to be giving to a man is what you are pouring on these things and as long as you keep having them around you won’t be able to love a man enough to marry him.
Me: God! I cant believe you are saying this aunty! This teddy has got nothing to do with my loving any man. Please lets just change this topic. Don’t worry, God will give me my husband very soon so you can do ‘asoebi’ ok?
Aunty: Amen o! But you still have to throw this thing away o! Abi sister?
Mum: Yes, we will get rid of it for her.
Me: Let me not look for my teddy o!

Two days later, I returned from work to find that doctor had disappeared. I immediately went to ask my mum and her sister.
Me: My teddy is missing. Where did you guys put him?
Mum (feigning surprise): Teddy? Which teddy??(Looking at her sister) Did u see any teddy???
Aunty: Teddy ke! I didn’t o! (To me)Have you checked your room properly)
(Am thinking to my self, see these two old women o! Playing tricks with me)
Me: You people stop this now. Where have you hidden my teddy? I hope you didn’t burn it o!(now I was scared for doctor).
Aunty: Your mum has taken it to her school (mumsie has a school), she dashed it to the kids in Kindergarten.
Mum: Yes I did.
Me: You did what? Please bring back my teddy o! I don’t like all dis!
Mum: Don’t worry my dear, now we have removed it, you will see that your husband will come soon.
Aunty (concurring): Yes you will see.
(This people are serious o!)
Me: So it’s the kids in Kindergarten that deserve to keep a possessed teddy abi? Please bring back my teddy, I beg you.
Mum/Aunty (laughing at me): See old woman crying for teddy, u are not ashamed of yourself Princess.

I turned the house upside down but couldn’t find doctor. I had already begun making plans to go to mum’s school to retrieve my teddy when I stumbled on him that Saturday morning while cleaning the house. Am sure whoever hid him there had done it recently cos I had cleaned the house before then and didn’t remember seeing him there. Anyway, I dusted my teddy and returned him back to his place on my bed. Aunty has since left for her base but I still have a feeling my mum is trying to abduct the teddy again and this time he may not be so lucky. If I know my mum well, she may burn him up.
Seriously now guys, what do you think? The thought of a teddy blocking my chances at marriage is really absurd to me but I’ll also like to hear your opinions on this.

ps. The pic above is not my teddy(Doctor) but doesn't he look adorable.
